Working visit of NAKO Executive Director to Washington

On January 10-15, NAKO Executive Director Olena Tregub paid a working visit to Washington, D.C., where she held a series of meetings with U.S. government officials and civil society representatives.

In particular, Tregub met with representatives of the U.S. Department of Defense, State Department, and Congress.

On January 11, the NAKO Executive Director visited the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA). During the meeting, they discussed the need for transparent and competitive selection for the supervisory board and the importance of attracting professionals with a strong reputation who have competency in audits, international markets, the defence industry, and more.

On January 12, Tregub met with Transparency Chair Gary Kalman. They agreed on cooperating to advocate for sanctions against persons in Ukraine who are corrupt and harm the strategic interests of the state. NAKO was established as a joint project of Transparency International UK and Transparency International Ukraine to combat corruption in Ukraine’s security and defence sector, and NAKO is now a strategic partner of the international Transparency movement.

Also on January 12, Tregub held an online meeting with Damon Wilson, president of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). NED is a non-profit American organization founded to support democratic institutions around the world. Tregub and Wilson discussed opportunities for cooperation and promoting democracy in Ukraine’s security and defence sector.

On January 13, Olena met with Alina Polyakova, President and CEO of the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA). An important component of the meeting was exchanging experience on conducting analytical research.
