The next phase for NAKO
A year ago, the Independent Defence Anti-Corruption Committee (NAKO) has become an independent NGO and has steadily worked to improve its governance and staffing structures. We are looking forward to our first formal Conference of Members, due to take place within the next month, as we are adapting our ways of working to the current conditions and requirements. As we move through that transition and toward full operational autonomy, we wish to thank all those who have contributed to our work so far. In particular, our thanks go to the NAKO Committee members, who have been instrumental in NAKO’s achievements and work so far. Drago Kos, Yulia Marushevska, Volodymyr Ogrysko, Oleh Rybachuk, James Wasserstrom and Michel Yakovleff, as well as previous Committee members – Timothy Evans and Sevgil Musaeva – have been key to the progress NAKO has made towards building integrity, transparency and accountability in the defence sector in Ukraine. As they step down from their positions after 3-year tenures, we wish the former Committee members all the best in their future endeavors. NAKO was created by Transparency International Defence and Security and TI-Ukraine in 2016 and is now an independent partner of TI. It works to combat corruption in the Ukrainian defence sector, thereby increasing the effectiveness of defence spending, improving living conditions of defence personnel and ensuring Ukraine’s defence forces provide state and human security.
